Join the Challenge
35 participants are poised and waiting for June 1 when they will attempt to write 50,000 words in 30 days as part of the very first Southern Cross Novel Challenge (SoCNoC).
The build up to SoCNoC has seen a burst in new members, our first regional forum in North America, progress widgets, flyers, a press release and the ability to add friends to your profile. We also have a little more up our sleeves that will help all Kiwi Writers communicate with each other.
The Southern Cross Novel Challenge is NaNoWriMo for the southern hemisphere, complete with a long weekend during week one when enthusiasm is at its peak and wintry weather to help us cosy up indoors. This is our first year and though we already have more participants than NaNoWriMo in its first year we are still building on the good stuff and the fun stuff that will be available.
When the challenge begins participants will be able to update their word count on the challenge page and see everyone else’s word counts. It’s a matter of trust this year with no word count validation available, though some participants have already expressed a preference to this.
The time zones throughout the site and the times that govern the start and end of the challenge is New Zealand Standard Time. We still encourage participants to do the challenge to their local time and email us your updated word count on 30 June your time. Check out the world clock for time zone comparisons.
We will have weekly news to keep you motivated and a daily blog to allow that essential procrastination time. Not only will the Kiwi Writers admin team be contributing to the blog but we hope you will too! Just email your post to contact@kiwiwriters.org.
