Challenges Galore
The Southern Cross Novel Challenge for 2008 was a roaring success. Congratulations to all of the participants and if you didn't participate this year mark it in your calendar for 2009 when it will be bigger and better than ever!
143 Kiwi Writers members participated in SoCNoC this year to collectively write over 2 million words (2,635,755 words to be exact). 104 participants posted a word count and we had an astounding 32 winners including 6setdreamer and hopefullily who wrote over 100,000 words each. All of these numbers far surpass the achievements from SoCNoC 2007 and show just how you, the participants, are giving SoCNoC new life.
The community has thrived with the competition of SoCNoC and there are plenty of challenges coming up to keep us all interested and writing. The Kiwi Writers chatroom has been buzzing almost 24/7 with writers, word wars and story chat. It's been great to chat with new members, new writers and to encourage everyone while they are writing.
There are three new member challenges starting in June and we're thrilled that members are taking control of the challenges area. If you want to create a challenge check out the Kiwi Writers Guide to Member Challenges and just do it.
If you were a participant in SoCNoC and still have the novel to finish join up for the Don't Stop, Keep Going, 20K Challenge and keep that momentum rolling through July. If you haven't participated in SoCNoC try the Summer Write A Thon and write 25,000 between July and October. The Rejection Collecting Challenge might just be the challenge you need to start getting your work out to publishers.
Kiwi Writers isn't just about encouraging you to write. It's also about encouraging you to try new things with writing, to put a little zing into your writing with the odd Zing Thing. This month we're challenging you to write a 2000 word story with a different main character than you usually write. Writing isn't always about the first draft and just getting words on the page there are plenty of other things like researching, editing, revisions, world building that we do. So whatever you're wanting to acheive with your writing decide to finish at least one thing in August and sign up forThe End Is Nigh challenge.
So if you thought it would quieten down after SoCNoC you thought wrong. Now there are more challenges on and there's bound to be something to suit everyone.
