Picking Up The Pen Again.
Posted by: cassie
I always find that after a month long challenge I need a few days to recuperate. This year I took longer off than I wanted to, but then sometimes that’s just the way life work out. There were things I had to get up to date: a young one to lavish attention on, course work to catch up with, housework to get done, and of course some planning for the next step on my WIP.
Today I started writing again! And while I was nervous about how it would go, I have to admit it feels really good. It’s the novel I am working on for the Publishing 2008 Challenge, and I’ve not looked at it since before SoCNoC, I haven’t actually read the whole thing since well before then – morning sickness struck me down last time I attempted to rewrite and edit the thing. It feels good to sink back into the story though, to start the process of a second draft – my first attempt at rewriting a novel, and I am excited about branching out into this newer area of writing.
I have edited before, have rewritten short stories etc, but a novel is a much bigger beast, and I feel like it’s going to be quite the adventure. Another massive learning curve for me, but an exciting one all the same.
If you’ve been taking a break as well, maybe it’s time that you picked up your pen, opened a file, or whatever works for you. Push on, get back into the writing and enjoy everything it has to offer.

I took two days of writing before I got back to finishing the second draft. It only took a couple thousand words and I finished it yesterday.
SoCNoC really got me excited about the story again and showed me the potential that it has. I got some great ideas for fleshing out the setting, subplots and character motivation. Tonight I can't help but start planning what I need to do to produce Draft Three that will be the final draft that I'll then polish close to perfection. :)

Good luck Cassie. It sounds like a bit of an adventure for you. Hope it goes well.
As for picking up that pen, surely that was metaphorical?

lol yes, definitely metaphorical. We have a hard time locating pens in this house, Ivy likes to play with them ;-) And yes, very much an adventure, exciting times!
