Start: Sat 3 Feb 12:00:00am
End: Tues 6 Feb 11:59:59pm
Goal: 7500 words
Daily Goal: 1875 words

Break into the New Year with a writing frenzy. Short and sharp you'll be surprised at what you can achieve with a little healthy competition.

Waitangi Day is on the 6 February and commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between the European settlers and local Maori. It was first signed in 1840 at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands. The first Waitangi Day was celebrated in 1934.

The 7500 words must be on a work of fiction, but can be on a new or existing work.

Validation: We will be creating posts within this forum for each day. Here you can post your progress for that day. We're going completely on honour this time.

Winners: Post your final word count within the Day 4 thread. If it is 7500 or more you win! And there might be a goody for you too. :)

I really, really want to finish it all in one day so I can get the rest of the long weekend in. I will certainly be joining in, but don't know if it's possible in 1 day - we'll see.

I bet one day is possible, if you decide to make the entire story complete drivel. As in just ramble about something, like why your main character likes cheese.

Or something of the like.

Hmmm... no matter how good or bad it is, you have something to edit. I find writing fast easier than writing slow, and you come out with more natural sounding, and flowing prose when you write fast.

My best day on Nanowrimo was almost 6000 words, so I know it's possible.

I don't think there is much relation to speed versus drivel unless you're going completely insane, like the guy who wrote 50k words in 1 day on Nanowrimo.

Stephen King, in his book "On writing" says he writes every day, and aims for something like 10k words per day. That is not edited of course. And I know a lot of people look at that number and say "holy shit!", but I think it's reasonable for someone who wants to be a writer for a living.

I think it's bigger than most though.

I just read the actual title of this thread, instead of what I assumed it says.

Anyone else spot the spelling mistake yet?

Otherwaise I might just have to wonder about our abilities to function without spelcheckers. (sic)

Spot the spelling mistake? You mean wace?
Waitangi is spelled correctly, and Wace is to get all w's for wwwW.

It's hard to tell when you are saying Waitangi Weekend Word Wace in person. :)

Hmmm... I only mentioned it when I saw Chris's post, and then someone had corrected it I guess. Funny that.

I look forward to the Wace regardless of the spelling (or is that irregardless?) :)

Yeah, I saw it the other day too and realised that we couldn't edit it. My bad. I'll fix it tonight and might add the ability to edit the topic (probably when I allow people to edit their own posts).

Anyhow, we're off topic...

Oh yea. Just something I noticed... the subtitle of this forum says:

"We don't start small. Write a 7500 word short story in 4 days. Starting 5pm Friday, closing 11:59:59pm Monday."

*emphasis on the 5pm*

Maybe a correction needed? ^_^

Thanks Jen. That's been changed on the forum to be consistent. Well spotted.

Yeah, it is a bit quick, but hey, there will be another event next weekend too - see the Challenges forum.

Maybe you should finish those assignments off first ;-)

I think Kerryn edited that now and the new times are at the top of this forum.

00:00 Saturday to 00:00 Wednesday (accurate to about a second or so) - 4 days total.

Are you hinting at my editing or hinting that I should finish off my NaNoWriMo novel? Maybe a bit of both.

I must admit, once I do some editing next week on Dutton's comedy challenge, maybe I should do NaNoEdMo with the rest of you.
