All righty. So, as previously stated, I'm trying to finish my current WIP - a substantial rewrite of an unfinished earlier piece.
Thanks to copying and pasting, I've been able to rewrite about 30 K and added it to my original 40 K. Progress: WIP: 71,000 of an estimated 110,000. Unfortunately, I never finished the first work and have run out of chapters to rewrite. Argh. It's all uphill from here to the final dramatic climax!! Think furious writing, late nights, caffeine intake and talking through dialogue with spouse. *Reaches for brown paper bag* 04 Aug 2007 18:57:54 Quote:

yup, it has to be brown.
Wow, slushpile. Good luck! I'm sure you can do it. What is the novel about? 04 Aug 2007 22:00:21 |

Thanks Xengab, thanks Kerrynangell.
Yep, it's a huge challenge all right, but I'm really glad that I'm in this challenge. I just keep thinking- at least at the end of August, I'll have it done. Out of the way. Yay, EIN!! Yesterday I managed to create a very painful 4 K. Slow progress for me. So my progress update: 75,000 out of 110,000. AT the moment I'm thinking that anywhere over 100k will be the finish line if I can get there. Bring on the tumultous final chapters! PS - This one's an old Fantasy/spec fiction that I've been brewing up for years. First wrote the beginning about two years ago! 06 Aug 2007 08:44:26 Quote:

Hey slushpile, that's great that you've picked up something you started a while ago. I bet it'll feel like a weight off your shoulders when you complete it!

Thanks everyone!
Good news in a way - I broke the 100 K mark - despite the miniature shoulder devil that told me this was never going to be published so why bother? Woo hoo! That's teach the little beggar. Only problem is - looking back at the ending, I can see that it's not well paced at all. I mean dramatic endings are one thing but it has that -I'm-sick-of-this-and-just-want-it-over feel. Fandangle it. More words needed to pad it out. Back to the typing!! 10 Aug 2007 11:27:01 Quote:

Substantial rewrite... I sympathize. I'm planning for a huge one myself... and although part of me is looking forward to the story again, the sane part of me knows how much work it's going to be.
But wow! To reach the 100k mark is awesome! Woot! Just think of how much you've covered. ^_^ 12 Aug 2007 16:39:00

I remember when I first reached 100K in a novel. It's a great achievement. That novel, by the way, ended up around 150,000 words. It's sat for a year and a half or so and from what I've now learned I don't think I'll keep half of what I wrote if not more. It's planned as the first book in a trilogy. So in short: I can sympathise!!
