Lesse. I want to do a few things this month:
1) Finish my current untitled novel. It's at about 62k and I bet it'll finish at around 75k. 2) Get a title for the above book. Who knows how long finding a decent title could take me... 3) Finish planning for my next novel, Pixie Dust. Probably will be about 5 hours worth total? Not much, I just have to do it. 4)Finish Outline for my draft 2 on my 2006 NaNo, Wings of War. Oy. Counting the read-through and so on... this one will probably take me around 10 hours of work this month, as I have a lot of reworking to do, but I need to get ready for the rewrite. 03 Aug 2007 16:29:22

Good and worthy tasks.
I'm doing similar things, I think. Tidying up those tasks I know I should be doing (but need a push to start on). I've been lucky that my titles have been fairly easy for me. They're all puns and echo, in some way, the theme of the books. But then, I'm stuck on other things - swings and roundabouts. Best of luck. 03 Aug 2007 21:21:45

Thank you! ^_^
Some titles come fairly easy to me as well... My current untitled had a title, however it doesn't work anymore. The original story I had thought of is not what is coming out on paper. It isn't as if I didn't expect it... it was months since I first imagined the story before I finally sat down to write it... so the story had slowly morphed over time and the original title no longer fits. Not even a little bit. -shrugs- So it has me stumped. __ Update: I did about 2 and half hours on my planning for Wings today. Actually it was more like 4 hours total... but I was running a Garage Sale too, so it wasn't all work time. I'm estimating that I've spent this amount max. Now I'm off to finish this reread that way I can finish my outline notes and get to work on getting draft two outlined! 04 Aug 2007 13:05:33

Pixie Dust, Wings of War. Very nice titles. What is your current WIP about?

No Excuses. Just Write.

I do agree, some titles just zap or my case zing into your head. Then others just take along time or someone else's suggestion.
The wrong title can make or break a book, some readers (namely me) will stop reading a series if the title was misleading. Sorry if the title mentions animals it better be in the book! Plus long titles are easily forgotten, your two listed ones will be easy to remember, which helps alot with people in book stores and libraries. 05 Aug 2007 06:17:34

Wrote a few thousand on my untitled today. About time my computer is working well enough that I feel up to it... I was almost getting desperate enough to handwrite the rest of it.
Kerrynangell: Thank you. My current WIP is more of an Urban Fantasy, where it toys with a different version of Heaven and Hell. The book mainly features a young woman who by the betrayal of a friend ends up dead... but not quite. The death results in a mutation of her once-latent Guardian magic (think an angel-protector on earth). The result intrigues the devil and his power hungry daughter and gets her snagged into some pretty weird and wacky problems. xengab: -nods- I do agree, though I can be pretty lenient on titles... as though as they fit the book in some way. I would be upset if something mentions a wolf and yet not only is the animal not there, but there isn't even an obvious metaphor for it. I have to be able to fit it to the book or I get frustrated too. 07 Aug 2007 14:51:01

Worked a bit more yesterday...
--Another 1k words down on my WIP. --About 3 hours of work on brainstorming and figuring out the holes in my outline for Wings. --And about an hour of work throughout the day on brainstorming for Pixie Dust. Thankfully my summer classes are ending tonight after my finals and I have a week vacation from work next week. (woot!) So I should be really productive next week. -dances- 09 Aug 2007 03:16:53

Yay a week off! that will certainly help.
Your urban fantasy sounds really cool, I love urban fantasy! Sounds like everything is coming together nicely. 09 Aug 2007 08:08:32 |

Cassie: Thank you! :) I love urban fantasy as well and have had quite a blast writing this one.
Updates: --Finished my WIP today. I wasn't spot on my estimated word count, but close. The story topped out at 73, 506 words instead of the estimated 75k. But close enough. I'm sure it'll grow in the rewrite someday in the future. 1 Thing done!! --Pixie Dust is getting close to the writing stage! I can't wait! Just some last minute research and fiddling with a few plot bunnies, getting to know my characters a bit better and so on. Maybe I'll do AugNoWriMo for it... hmm... --Lastly... I think I underestimated how much work needed to go into Wings. -muses- There is no way I'll finish planning and such in 2 hours... so we'll see just how many it takes me. Though now I'm betting it'll be almost double that. Yikes. o.O But the second draft will be all the better for it. (I plan on starting draft 2 come September and working on it up until NaNo). 12 Aug 2007 16:29:33

Update:
--Pixie Dust is now in the writing stage. 3k words in so far... and I'd like another 1k done by bed time. --Still no title for my WIP... but I haven't put much time into it. Tomorrow I think I'll fiddle with it. --Yesterday I put about 3 hours into working on my Wings outline... I have marked the scenes I like/want to keep from the original draft and started naming certain changes. Tomorrow I'd like to get a rough draft of an outline done to sit it aside for a few days. That way I have time for my brain to rest to see if I really have fixed some of those plot holes. :-p --**-- Adding a Challenge! --I'd also like to finish Pixie Dust this month... I suppose my own August NaNo. I figure I'll have at least half of it done this week while I have the time off... then I'll worry about the other half after work each night. It should even out at around 50k. Give or take a few thousand... -shrugs- Never can be spot on. 15 Aug 2007 15:14:48

Aww, thank you guys SO much. It's a ton of help to stay motivated when you come here and see everyone being so supportive. -hugs-
Updates: --Did a lot of work on Pixie Dust today. I'm now at 11k on the story. I've been slacking the past few days though... so I'll have to kick myself into gear for the next few days to get what I can get done before my vacation is gone. :-p --I have found a title! After several hours of brainstorming and finally finding one that I like, my WIP is now: Wrong Side Angel. Fits the story wonderfully. -squee- --And well, I'm now off to work some more on my Wings stuff. Thanks again everyone! 17 Aug 2007 15:02:31

Still going strong sadey. Your Wings of War sounds interesting. WW2 is it?
My husband is ex N.Z. airforce, not that he was in the war :) Need any help with specifics? 17 Aug 2007 17:00:51

Needed a break from working on making my revision outline for Wings and decided to come do some posts here.
Cassie: Thank you! ^_^ Gaye-belle: Actually it's not, though I do have several ideas bubbling in my mind for that war, I haven't gotten around to researching it to make sure anything I have is plausible there. But now you make me wish I could actually think up some questions... -muses- It's always nice to get some help from someone more experienced than me. As for Wings of War... it's another fantasy story of mine (-laughs- see a theme?). The main characters are enslaved were-dragons trying their attempts to survive in a world that sees them as nothing more than expendable weapons. xD Updates: -I wrote about 5k on Pixie Dust yesterday and another 1k on it today. Ending the week with 21k on it down, and the rest should come by the end of August. It's nice to write something less 'serious' for a change. -Spent about 2 hours today working more on my outline for Wings. There are several scenes that needed disposing of... and quite a few that are definitely important to add to the story. I'm also filling in some of those gaping plot holes NaNo left me with. This year, I'm definitely going to do some planning ahead of time. :-p Don't know if I'll outline, but having a basic idea of what's going on would be a nice change! LOL 20 Aug 2007 14:19:20

This challenge has been good for you this month. You are getting so much done.
It was a good idea to tidy up loose ends, it's so easy to get excited about starting something new, before completing other work. I didn't plan the Socnoc challenge, once started, the ideas just flowed as I typed. It was based on facts, I don't know how to begin with fantasy. 20 Aug 2007 20:29:52

Thanks again everyone. ^_^
Gaye-belle: I agree, it's been very good to sit down and tie up some loose threads. Kerrynangell: Thank you! And it was a fun one to write... really sloppy but fun. :) Angelic: Thank you! As for current progress... we lost power this past weekend, so I had days where I couldn't really do much besides my current WIP. My Alphasmart Neo saved me quite a bit and allowed me to get 10k done on Pixie Dust, so I'm up to 30k something. Sadly I can't update my current word count just yet, but I know PD is now over 30k... but I don't know where. It's saved on my jump drive now and to get to that I have to move the dog. He's not feeling well at all tonight, his ears are all swollen, so we'll wait until he feels up to moving. Of course, knowing he's sick kind of takes away any energy to do stuff tonight. :( So hopefully after figuring out what's up with him at the Vet's tomorrow, I'll stop worrying long enough to write something. 28 Aug 2007 12:55:27
