What bloody progress, I haven't even started! I work in insurance and I have not stopped working since Wednesday night and tomorrow is all about the family! Then I have at least a weeks worth of reports to do.
My plan was to edit all three books, but I think it will have to be to actually start the third one! I was hoping to be a third of the way through it by now, but things conspire against one don't they! Best laid plans and all that jazz... Still, I am, only just, still smiling :o) 02 Aug 2008 16:59:36

That's great that you are still smiling, even if its 'just'. Must be hell working in insurance at a time like this - my hubby works in network dispatch for Powerco and has been on call all week (and called out most nights and some strange hours of the morning) to help get faults sorted, so I can commiserate.
I hope you manage to find some time to get started on that third book, how many words would you need to get out this month to get it done? 02 Aug 2008 17:03:27 |

I have already started and at approximately 2,000 - would like at least 50,000 for the first draft, the deadline is 24 August, so fingers crossed, but I think it is around 6,000 words a day now! Will just have to extend the deadline.
My other problem is I am also running out of steam on this trilogy already, I still have plenty of ideas, but just the motivation is going - I desperately want to complete it, if only to the first draft stage, then I can take a break or start another project to get back into the creativeness again. 03 Aug 2008 19:30:02

yeah 6K a day sounds like long writing days, is it your personal deadline, or one set by someone else?
I think trilogies can seem quite long when you're sitting at the start of them, hopefully once you're a bit further in you'll get some more energy back for it? 03 Aug 2008 19:43:06 |

I hope you get that spark back for the story. Maybe you could try brainstorming what drew you to the story in the first place and see if maybe you've lost some of those elements?
Good luck! 04 Aug 2008 19:40:42

I have been doing some story analysis and brain storming. Because I have added some extra characters, they are taking over the story, and I have to stop the revolution!
Haven't typed much, I haven't even started my work reports yet! Maybe that can be my End is Nigh thing - finish my work reports! :o) Hopefully I can get back into the swing of writing soon, don't want to lose momentum! 06 Aug 2008 15:57:50

Wrote three reports Rang several people (work related) and guess what, actually wrote 300 words in my story! Yeah whoo! My word count for my last book is now 4,300 odd, but it is better than nothing. 06 Aug 2008 21:09:04

Another 300 words yesterday, but I did sit up in bed last night playing with my story map, trying to get the ideas to flow together and working out the perfect ending - nearly there - even the characters don't know how it is going to end! I love being in charge of my own version of "the world"!
Another three work reports done - 6 down, 30 to go... 08 Aug 2008 08:24:47

30 to go!? WOW that is a lot of reports, lucky you are pushing through them fairly decently then. Great to hear you got some more work done on the story, even if its mapping some things out :-)

Last night I did five work reports, only 20 odd to go now, but it is a very daunting task when all I want to do is write! Do others find that work gets in the way sometimes?
Anyway today I finished my map - this is where I map out exactly how I want the story to flow, gives me a chance to see where the weak links are and either shore them up or cut them off altogether, the ending is coming together nicely, which it should do, it is the end of the trilogy! 13 Aug 2008 17:14:12

Work, wedding planning, spending time with my fiance... ya know, life.
I love planning/mapping. It's great to be able to see where you're going and to get excited about the project. 16 Aug 2008 18:59:24

I love mapping too, I get to plan how I want things to happen, I feel like a higher power in a way, I get to control what goes on. Perhaps thats why I am NOT a control freak in real life... hehehe.
I also downloaded that plotcraft too, because I actually have a file underneath my bed with all my scraps of papers with notes on them, so getting them onto the computer, AND Backing them up, will help! We have had powercuts here over the last 5 days, that and SNOW, you know the white stuff! So full on out playing in the snow with my son! Writing, well other than the map and writing reports (13 this week, wahoo!), I have not done any constructive work on my novel! ARGHHH This is frustrating me, but I want to get the work stuff out of the way so that I have full concentration on the book. Only 17 reports to go (it keeps growing with every new claim I get...) Big trip to the Howard Valley tomorrow to look at SNOW DAMAGE NOW! Oh, I did update my blog - does that count as something? 17 Aug 2008 20:04:42

It might do, was it on your list? lol
keep at it with getting the reports done! You're getting much closer. Sounds like fun times with the weather down that way. Oh and I can totally understand wanting to get work things out of the way so you can focus on the novel, hope it happens soon! 18 Aug 2008 08:50:43 |

So do I Cassie, so do I! In fact I am actually starting to get enthusiastic about it, whereas before the weather bombs(!) I was thinking, Oh No, another one. Its amazing that when you can't work on something, it is the one thing that seems to dominate your thoughts and dreams - well for me it is anyway!

Well I think I can comprehensively write off this challenge with a big fat '0'! I know there is still 11 days to go, but to achieve my goal I had to finish the third book, which is barely started.
Good news on the work front, I am down to 14 reports to go... Sick to death of writing reports, I know what I would rather be writing............ 20 Aug 2008 16:56:31

It's unfortunate that you won't be able to get your book done, but if not winning the challenge is disappointing, maybe you could write a short story or do a bit of planning. Because that's still finishing things, right? :)

I did finally work out my plan, but it was not on my original list of things to do. The book will still get finished, just delayed, so next month or October. Once these work reports are out of the way, watch out story, HERE I COME!
