Hi Everyone,
I'm brand new to the site...great to see something available locally. I've been a member of Writing.Com for a year now and had no idea that a site like this existed in New Zealand, otherwise I would have been here sooner! 25 Sep 2008 14:32:22

Heya, welcome to the site, glad you finally found us! lol
So what kind of writing are do you normally work on? 25 Sep 2008 15:00:52 |

Thanks Cassie :) My first novel was a contemporary romance, based in Christchurch, about a woman fleeing her abusive husband. Funnily enough her name was Cassie :)
I'm a bit of a romantic at heart, but I like trying all styles of writing. I'm currently working on something a little different, a futuristic (but not unrealistic) story about a woman struggling to save her partner who is hooked on drugs and gets in a little trouble with some not very nice men he owes money to... Sounds like a really interesting story! I hope the writing of it goes really well.
That's so funny your characters name was Cassie! lol I think I know of far more characters called Cassie than real people with the name strangely. I hope you decide to take up the 25K challenge if you decide not to do NaNo :-) it's always nice to working on things at the same time as other people, I find the encouragement really cheers people along. My hats off to anyone who is raising two girls and working full time AND trying to write! I'll have two girls come November, but I'm lucky enough not to have to work full time at anything other than being a Mum/Domestic Goddess/Writer. 25 Sep 2008 19:48:25 |

Hi pbrae, glad you haven't an 'n' between the a and a of your pen-name. :)
Welcome aboard, there is usually something going on here, people come and disppear into real life (like me lately) and turn up again. My first novel was set in ChCH as I used to live there and was familiar with the place, lovely city. Nothing like a bit of romance it makes the world go around. :) 25 Sep 2008 22:04:20

Hey, no need for the edit, I kind of figured what you were implying ;)
You're the first person to have pointed that out...and I'm not even being sarcastic! So you moved from Christchurch to Southland? Some of my husband's family are from Gore so I've been down there a few times. I love central Otago it's so pretty through there...what made you move? 26 Sep 2008 09:09:47

Cassie I think I definitely will do the 25k challenge here.
Not quite so much pressure and not quite so public...more of a low key goal I think. I checked out your website yesterday. I love your blog...and of course I noted that you're having another little girl soon. When are you due? My husband and I actually have 4 kids between us. Two girls and two boys. The oldest is now a scarfy in Dunedin, his daughter moved away for a while but is temporarily at home again after flatting with the boyfriend didn't turn out too good, and my baby boy of 15 is still at home... 26 Sep 2008 09:13:31

Our little girl is due on the 13th of November - which is why I'm not participating in NaNo this year, although depending on how I am feeling I might take up the 25K challenge! lol we'll see how I'm going.
Thanks for checking out my blog, I have a lot of fun writing it :-) 4 kids would keep you on your toes I bet, even if they are all a bit older! 26 Sep 2008 11:46:25 |

Have you got your name picked out yet?
I would imagine 4 kids would keep me on my toes :) Fortunately I've never had to cope with all four at once. Tony's daughter has lived with us on and off since she was seven. She has always been our 'wild child'. Fiercely independent and opinionated, (just like her Dad!) now she's settled into a job with a law firm she has turned out to be a wonderful young woman. His other daughter is 'mummy's girl' and has never lived with us. Girls (as you know, being one yourself!)are strange beings...they're very complex to raise compared to boys. Have fun with two on your hands! Wait till they're teenagers...that will be fun! 26 Sep 2008 14:20:17

I'm already cringing about the teen years... our oldest can be quite the drama queen so its going to be loads of fun! Lol looking forward to seeing what this one will be like.
We've just started talking about names - a difficult task indeed getting something that hubby likes! I think we'll try to have 3-4 on the list and see what she looks like when she gets here. Unless I totally fall in love with something in the meantime lol. So much fun :-) 26 Sep 2008 15:00:55 |

It certainly is fun :) We only picked a girls name out because people were horrified to think we would have a girl and she wouldn't have a name. But we both knew we were having a boy even though we hadn't asked.
Only a month to go Cassie! Exciting stuff. 30 Sep 2008 15:01:45

Welcome, pbrae! I love your signature. So, so true.
It's great to see a few new names around the place. Writing.com is one of the forums I've been meaning to poke around in but it just seems so big! 02 Oct 2008 18:43:38

It is big...it can be daunting. But I love it there. I'm addicted! I've joined the romance and the young adult novel workshops and they're so great. You post your work for others to review. It's very helpful. Sometimes with our own work we can't 'see the woods for the trees' and it takes someone objective to tell us what we're doing wrong.
Without WDC I wouldn't be published. I won a short story competition on there and subsequently got an ebook contract for the story. When I submitted my novel to the same publisher they sent me a contract straight back. While not being a traditional publisher, they still gave me a contract for print copy, this being completely new to them, and hey presto, here I am. I'm so excited, I should get the first copy in my hands today or tomorrow. 03 Oct 2008 16:07:56

Oh wow! That's so exciting! You'll have to show us a picture. :)
And I'll have to brave the WDC forums and check it out. 05 Oct 2008 13:31:35

pbrae,
Hey, I'm new here too and live out by Little River on the Peninsula. Your book cover is beautiful and the blurb well done. Ripley 16 Oct 2008 20:17:48

Thanks for the great comments ;)
It's causing me a little grief at the moment because the publisher is having trouble with shipping to New Zealand and it's costing so much per book it's hardly worth getting in. But they assure me they're working on an alternative which would mean better quality and less cost on book price and shipping. All par for the course I guess. I'm on a steep learning curve! 17 Oct 2008 11:47:04
