Helloooo,

It's a bit embarassing to post on KW after not having been active for months *blush*, buuut, having known many of you from Wellington (and associating Wgtn with you guys!), I would like some help/advice about transport in Wellington. (Yes, I realize this is completely off the topic of writing. I hope this is allowed?)

I am going down to Wgtn from Akl this week with my school choir for competitions, but due to a new situation arising, I've rearranged my flight to go back to Akl a day ahead of the rest of my choir. My school is helping me sort out the flight changes, but, I know very little about Wellington (and taking buses and shuttles in general), and I need to arrange a way to go from my hotel (CityLife Hotel in Lambton Quay, apparently) to the airport.

So... question... what is a convenient, economical way (bus or shuttle or taxi or whatever) to go from my hotel to Wgtn Airport, and what do I actually have to do? (My parents have no idea...)

Hi angeldreams

The airport flyer bus (big orange thing, usually) goes straight from lambton quay to the airport, about $6ish. Leave plenty of time.

Taxis cost $30-35, more if you get stuck in traffic, biggest company is Combined, 0800 384 4444.

Shuttles are $15, you need to book a little more in advance (a few hours), co-op shuttles are on 0800 3878787. You need to leave a little more time as they will likely pick other people up, but they do get you from your door.

Usually the hotel staff will be very happy to help you book.

The cheapest way is by regular bus and a ten minute walk, but I wouldn't recommend this unless you know the area/are a confident traveller. Let me know if you want more info.

Hope this helps!

Ahhh, thank you for your prompt and very helpful response! Regarding the airport flyer bus, what do you mean by "Leave plenty of time"? If it goes from Lambton Quay to the airport directly, how long should it take- how far is Lambton Quay from the airport?

The airport bus is also busy, if you have several bags, take the shuttle. "Leave plenty of time" I think means, the bus stops at all the stops along the way, and traffic is a pain in the morning.

Never take a taxi.

I was charged $25 for an airport shuttle and I live close to the Airport.

Ahh, I see.

Taxi prices are crazy everywhere in New Zealand... (Here in Auckland, too...)
