I was sitting alone in a noisy room full of computers today, watching the little blue line of a server install creep across the screen when a little idea popped into my head.

"Hmmm," I thought, "I should write that down."

So I did. And then that idea flowed into another ... and another ... and another...

Before I knew it I had written three pages of history/backstory/world-building goodness that will form the basis for my Nano this year. Woot!

It is amazing where one can find inspiration, and often it is in a task or job that is quite dull. I plan my stories while driving, so just be thankful none of you live in the Nelson area!

Haha, that's cool! I find inspiration can come to me so randomly, too. Sometimes it's just the way someone says something that can make it explode into a fantastic plot.

That's great that you're getting such a head start on NaNo. Seems you won't be one of those people scrambling for ideas in October, hmm? ;)

Hi Chris, nice to know you are still around. :)
I am a bit like you fisherbabe, driving...ideas. No way of writing it down as never prepared. I used to learn my lines for a play that way too, Invercargillians probably thought I was a bit demented talking to myself.

heh yeah, still around ... just not posting as much as I should ... hopefully getting more involved again now though :)

I've taken to carrying a notebook around in case of those sudden ideas (such as happened in the computer room the other day) but that doesn't help me much if the idea occurs in the car or in the shower :D

I came up with an idea, fully formed with beginning, middle with turning points and end for the first time this week. It all started when I gave blood and finished after a little coaxing of my muse.

It was really exciting to get all the story like that!

Having someone stick needles into my tender flesh and drain the vital essence from my body seems like a bit of an extreme method for sparking up the connection to my muse ... I might try and find a less scary way of doing it I think :)

I agree chris, I've heard of sweating blood and tears over a project, but never given voluntarily.
Oh kerryn you won't live this one down.
Was your muse a 'Vampire' by any chance? :)

Lol! I never thought of it that way. :) My muse hasn't taken the form of a vampire but a rainbow pixie. lol.

Do any of you feel your muse? Often when I write, I get the feeling of someone behind me, watching.

Freaky as heck

I kind of feel mine as a presence in my head jumping around when she gets excited (okay, sounding crazy now).

Sometimes it feels like she's jumping around over my shoulders.

I know what you mean about being in your head, mine is often there, generally it is the lead character I am writing about at the time.
