I know I've been offline a while now, but that's because I've been hard at work on completing the Get a Book Published challenge. Oh, that and moving city.
So, after two months editing, I want to write again, so I thought I'd share the insanity with you all in the form of a straight forward challenge. It's the 'But it's not a long weekend' weekend challenge! Write a 3k short story in three days, starting in about ... 55 minutes, and ending Monday midnight. Almost. Perhaps a little mean, and no notice at all, but writing should be spontaneous. Should any of you need a prompt, there are a set of strange and semi random parameters listed in the challenge. Else, just write 3k on a short story idea of your choosing. 11 Jul 2008 23:04:12 |

Yes good to see you back Maui-potiki.
I was tossing up between two ideas for the Zing Thing, so accepted this challenge to do one. Though between painting, getting my lounge in some semblence of order today, books back in the bookshelves etc, I haven't started writing yet. Tonight maybe, a sort of story to compliment Runty's Revenge, once Xengab's challenge (Pussy-footing Around) though this will be a Dog's day. I like the idea of certain challenges within the challenge. :) 12 Jul 2008 17:31:51

Accepted and won. :) This was a neat little challenge. I liked it. The first short story I've written that I actually thought was decent, haha.

Well done chibli. My story one third of the way in is a bit crappy really. Trying out different styles, but pretty tired at the mo, climbing up ladders etc.
What about you Cassie, have you started? 12 Jul 2008 23:45:53

Sweet mercy! Was my first thought, for some idiotic reason, I issues a challenge on another site that I kinda regret now as I have so much to do.. OK I will rephrase that, I have so much to do that I WANT to be doing..
BUT then figured, hey I could do this challenge of 3k and use what I write for the other challenge! So sometime today I will write some strange fanfic with Mesmer in it. 13 Jul 2008 05:09:19

Awesome xengab! Hope you manage to find time to do it :-)
I haven't started yet Gaye-Belle, had a really rough day yesterday, lots of family drama. Was all I could do to get my 1.5K done on the rewrite, and even that was a struggle! lol So am hoping to manage the 1.5K + this 3K challenge today. 13 Jul 2008 07:14:02 |

Hey congrats chibi! And stick at it xengab! I'm hacking thru my own. It's another chapter in an endless fanfic that I write when I need to just get words down on a page.
Did anyone use the writing prompt? I wasn't sure how popular a 'write 3k of anything' challenge would be, so I spiced it up for people who needed a prompt. 13 Jul 2008 19:40:04 |

I should give some thought to what I would write with those parameters ... probably something surreal.

If its one thing I love more then chocolate and Ducks, its strange things to put in stories..The more obscure the better. I seem to excell at being able to put things anywhere at anytime. As soon as I read about peaches and an orchard I knew how to do the story..EVEN though I already had an idea of what I was going to write my mind just changed it to suit..LMAO!
I think one challenge I did last year had various items that one needed in the story..Its always great to challenge ones mind, plus helps expand our writing skills. 14 Jul 2008 04:23:21

Yeah there is always a way or two of slipping in the items. Even if it's just having the character notice it.
Uuuh, sickness afflicts me. Cassie said she would keep prodding me though. I can't lose my own challenge. 14 Jul 2008 11:50:55 |

Well my two dogs having a 'dog-day- afternoon,' sneaked through the hedge and found themselves in an 'orchard'. They found a toy which Luke says was his, and Maggie said was hers, so there was conflict. After a boisterous tossle, Maggie, innocent of the world, asked Luke about his previous life and his time in the SPCA. Exploring in the long grass they found something metal with an orange handle, a pair of pliers, due to Maggie having a perchant for picking up things. They planned to cut the wire into the sheep paddock as they had seen their man owner cut wire with these pliers. Working it with their teeth and chomping the jaws of the pliers onto the wire they recieved an electric shock. That quietened them down, they spoke of all the irritating things they do to their woman owner, and then decided they were hungry, must be tea time. Luke told Maggie to bring the pliers back and drop them at the red door of the workshop, as the man owner was blaming the woman owner for misplacing them. Time for tea, Luke noticed an opened jar of peaches on the bench and thought that was to be his tea. He was told they were from the orchard next door and was for their owners' tea.
That about covers it. A wee story for my husband who loves his dogs. :) 14 Jul 2008 15:05:49

Heheh excellently written! You got all the items well in hand there.
I managed to drag myself across the finish line just now. Battling headaches and sore eyes. At least that's done. Wow, look at all those gold stars. That's quite a turnout and quite a success rate. 14 Jul 2008 16:49:22 |

Congrats people we have a 100% success rate! Excellent work all round! And lucky that I did pull through sickness to finish because that would have looked really bad ...
