Goal:
6 Novel Road Signs

Now that you’ve got an idea, some characters and research inspired conflict there are bound to be some scene ideas floating around in your head. To keep you racing from scene to scene during the fervour of SoCNoC you need some road signs.

The Rules

The 6 road signs are 6 outline points or key scenes. Ideally these are at a high level: several points of no return, decision points, major turning points, whatever you want to call them spaced out from that beginning point to the end.

These road signs are intended to get you to a point where you are comfortable to start writing. This can be as minimal as beginning, middle and end or as comprehensive as a scene outline.

To get a better understanding of how this works, check out Paperback Writer’s blog which describes how to outline at different levels from story, section, chapter and scene.

These road signs will give you your direction. This direction will change and during SoCNoC  it is likely to change many times so don’t get too attached to following the outline once you start writing. Only keep following it if it keeps being useful.
