Life changes

Change is something that’s on my mind a lot at the moment. In three months (or less, or maybe a little more) my third child will be entering the world.

It's one of those BIG changes, like falling in and out of love, moving city or country, buying a house, changing jobs, the death of a friend or family member. These kinds of change happen sporadically, and while often positive, they tend to upset the balance of life – which usually means that finding time for writing goes right out the window for awhile.

Finding that balance again can be difficult. Writing seems to be one of those things that is hard to slot into whatever the new version of your life looks like - all number of other things creep in to devour the time you'd carved out for your writing.

When it comes down to it though (as several wonderful writer friends have been telling me lately!), if you want to write, if you can't help but write, you'll find a way to carve a new niche for it in your life. It might take you a few weeks, or months, or even a year, but eventually there will be time again and everything that you experienced through whatever change it was that unbalanced you will add to the depth of your writing.

So don't despair. There is time yet, even if it feels like you might be running out. If part of what defines you as a person is that you're a writer, the words will still be there tomorrow, next week, or even next year.

Cassie you will find the time to fit in what you want to do, even with two under two, it just all depends on how you manage your time and space.  Best of luck with your extending family  ;o)

I think I need to tell myself this every single day that I spend doing something else other than working on my WIP. Even though I've spent the past 2 years revising the same novel I am a writer and I will have new words and new stories to tell.
