It's All About Ideas

Hello Kiwi Writer,

Did you get your shimmering bling last week to plaster all over your blog, website or in your forum signature? Do you have a blog where you'll be writing about your SoCNoC adventure? We'll love to read and follow along. Share the address in the SoCNoC forum and discover some new blogs yourself.

Last week we hosted a Treasure Hunt and although the challenge has finished now you're more than welcome to go on the hunt and share with us the interesting facts about when you're story is set. Our third preparation challenge, From the Outside, Looking In, finishes today so spend some time looking at your character's from the outside and see what you can learn.

Did you know there are actually 8 senses you can use when writing? We're all familiar with the usual ones: taste, hear, see, feel and smell. What about the sense of time, the sense of the unknown and the sense of space? Take on our fourth preparation challenge this week to Find Your Senses and give your story a depth and real-ness that will grip readers from beginning to end.

If you're having trouble coming up with ideas to try out before you have to make that second critical SoCNoC decision (the first was to take on the challenge!) and choosing one to develop into your SoCNoC novel head over to Merrilee Faber's blog and read her article on creating More Ideas Than You Can Write. Believe in the process, discard your first impressions, open your mind and write down everything no matter how cliched or stupid it sounds. You'll soon get to the good stuff.

Be Inspired.
