I Can't Believe It's Not Fiction!

A 3k short story challenge which is, at its core, a true story. As long as there is a core of non fiction to this particular story ... you can't believe it's not fiction!

The Rules

Whether it's a tale of high revenge during the sinking of the Titanic, a story of true romance during the All Black's latest crushing victory, or a family coming together on Election Night, there are plenty of stories set during real world events.

Your challenge, should you accept it, is to write a 3k short story set during a real event. As long as the setting and the event is real, then it counts. The event can merely be that, a setting, or background to your story, but there has to be the element of non fiction to it.
