Hobbies anyone?
Find what you love, and write about it.
Aside from writing we all should have some other interests or hobbies. Writing has so many genre's that liking the same authors as another writer is remote.
These days with the power of the internet and blogging a great way to reach fans, many authors have websites.
Just take a few moments, think about books that moved you. I do not mean just books you love, I mean ones you hate too. Those characters that ticked you off due to nasty habits, angst or just personality traits that pushed your buttons.
Bad can be good, why? Just means the author has made you care about what they are writing. If you did not care then you'd not be emotional about it.
Now look up those authors, do they have websites? Do they have new writers tips? Do they list interviews they endured?
Getting to know your favorite authors can be a good way to find out how to improve your own writing.
You shall notice ONE trend all these writers have, they all write in a genre they are passionate about.
I choose Stephen King, mainly because he is well known. He enjoys scaring people, exploring the dark side of human traits and taking readers on harrowing journeys.
Look in any bookstore and you'll find many dog, cat, knitting, bookclub, cooking and ametuer slueth series. They reflect the author, those authors enjoy those hobbies.
Write what you know, is a great mantra. Many writers think it means they can only write about things they have lived, thats not true as I can know that Stephen King has never killed anyone for the fun of it. Write what you know, just means write what you have knowledge on, so do your research.
Just about any genre can be tweaked to fit an authors hobbies or even a region they love.
So what floats your boat? What is in your brain from exploring books, hobbies or even education?
Write about it.
