Hello Kiwi Writer,

A few Kiwi Writers participated in our July Zing Thing dedicated to Lindsay Mutch. Congratulations to Amanda and silverfox101 for weaving the wonderful Mutchisms into 2000 word stories. We'd love to hear how you wove the elements into your stories so pop into the Zing Thing forum and share a bit about your story.

August is the month for ending here at Kiwi Writers with The End Is Nigh challenge and 24 participants are already signed up and hurtling towards endings of their chosen projects. Some have already begun finishing things including a two year old poem. The range of projects being worked on is vast including SoCNoC novels, NaNoWriMo novels, short stories given one last chance at life, synopsis writing, editing Submit A Book novels and battling writers block. It's a challenge where you set the goal whether it's one haiku, six short stories or an 80,000 word novel to write or revise. Long or short, one evening or hours each day, it's up to you how you get there but The End is the goal. That feeling of achievement can be hugely motivating. It's not too late to join us and share your goals in the forum.

There are more and more opportunities for writers coming about in New Zealand and overseas. It could be that or I'm just becoming aware of them. In any case you can find them in the Contests & Events forum. Share those that you become aware of and find a whole bunch of new markets and ways to stretch your writing wings. Some of the latest posts include Aesthetica Creative Works Competition for artists, photographers, poetry and fiction, Tess Duder Award for unpublished writers of teen fiction, Manhire Prize for creative science writing and the 2010 Sunday Star Times Short Story Competition.

It's not just online that you can get involved within fellow Kiwi Writers. If you're in Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton/Waikato or Palmerston North there are members just waiting to meet you in person to talk plot, characters and challenges. Check out the New Zealand forum and the General forum for details. If you're outside NZ we have Regional forums where you can announce your interest for an in person chat or if distance is too much of a barrier consider using the chat room for meet ups in your timezone.
