Waiting for the End is Nigh to start was just too much. I couldn't wait so I started getting down to some serious writing last Tuesday. From Tuesday to Friday I managed to scribble 12,000 words. As a result I have hit the ground running this morning and on my first writing day of the challenge have managed a good day of almost 3,500 words and there is still my 30 minutes on the bus home, unless there is no seat in which case all my aspirations to be a writer will be lost (for the evening).

I am still aiming to write 40,000 to 50,000 words this month. That should be enough to finish my novel, given last week's effort and the 30,000 words most of which date from last year. The plan is all mapped out, but there are always surprises no matter how much you plan. Suddenly, from nowhere, another character arrived in the story, and has had an immediate impact. She has written her way into the rest of the story, and I have a sneaky feeling she will play quite an important role later in the novel. The only thing I don't see clearly about this project is the ending. There have always been three or four possibles in my mind. Now my new character has opened up the chance of even more.

That's what I love about writing stories. They are living breathing things that can change like the weather.

Hope everyone else has had a good start to the End!! :-)

That's a fantastic start! I was wondering how you'd got on in these first days of the challenge. I love it when those spontaneous characters and twists happen even when you've got a plan it place. I've been on holiday so am only now getting back onto the road to The End. It's been absolute months since I've finished anything writing related so I'm really looking forward to having that feeling of accomplishment again.
