Monday Question: Your favourite character
I really liked one of my SoCNoC characters - Evie, who is the mother of the main protagonist. Evie is highly secretive and therefore, often surprising. She's also pretty grumpy, particularly with her daughter and really knows how to wind her up. But during the course of the novel, she opens up and becomes much more likeable. If I don't do anything with my SoCNoC novel, I'd definitely like to use her in another story.
Another of my favourite characters was from SoCNoC the year before - a man with learning difficulties who is the brother of the protagonist. He is a really happy, funny person who added some optimism to a pretty grim story. Everyone who read bits of my novel really liked him. When I killed him off at the end, I cried over him!
What about you Anna?
My favourite character is always the one I am working on at the time, but I have one in my head who is very demanding of my time at present, and while I can't say she is a favourite, I am enjoying the "discussions" we are having at present.
My favourite character is without a doubt Delaney Jones. That woman kicks ass, she is totally different to me and challenges some of my perceptions of the world. She is complex and sometimes unpredictable, but that is part of what makes her so fun. I love writing her. I love her world, the other characters and the storyline that will be the novel she occupies. I just have to have the time to write it and do her justice.
