July Zing Thing
Its nearly that time of the year - a Zing Thing Challenge - this is the official one, so it has a 2000 word limit.
We normally hold this in July, over a weekend, so if you have any preferences, state them here. Would also like to hear starting lines, witty comments or just plain silly things you have seen lately - try and keep it to a sentence. Also a genre, a character trait and setting. This is my example:
Silly thing seen: Cows walking past my letterbox (I actually saw this today... thankfully I live in the country!)
Opening Line: It was kind of dark... you know, like pea soup dark.
Genre: Apocalyptic
Trait: Nervous twitch
Setting: New Zealand back country station.
Ok, now its your turn.
Silly thing seen: 18-month-old boy falling asleep on his dinner
Opening line: The anti-itch cream was missing.
Genre: Comedy
Trait: Constant humming
Setting: Big city sprawl
Date: Next to last weekend?
In honour of a fallen Kiwi Writers we're dedicating this July Zing Thing to Lindsay Mutch. Each of our Zing ingredients will now be inspired by Lindsay's work. You can get a great taste of these Mutchisms on the Lindsay Mutch tribute site. Let us know what your favourite Mutchisms are here and on 18th July we'll post the challenge and reveal the ingredients. This July Zing Thing will be held from 23 - 25 July.
Here are some Mutchisms that tickled my fancy...
"It's not going to end well for the ostriches." - opening line
"Amber is a girl's name, not a bloody colour." - character name
"I was nearly killed by a freak Mexican wave." - silly thing seen
"Vanity thermometer."- random object
Sign up for the Zing Thing here and make sure to post your favourite Mutchisms.

Here's to you Linsda... *clink*
Hehe, this has post-apoocalyptic fantasy written all over it. I'm in *starts making notes*
LOL I wrote "post-aPOOcalyptic"...and it did have poo in it. Specifically "Bodygrunt numbers, not defecating on the city trolley, turning off a gas heater, calling her mother on her birthday – these were all things Amber had to remind her friend of."
I was a day late, only because I had a busy weekend, but I did write a full story I'm very happy with. Thanks for the inspiration Zing Thing!

Oh, challenging, this is going to be an interesting weekend! For a start I might have to start today... just to get a head start, I have family coming over on Saturday, and no doubt family commitments on Sunday - oh well - fun times ahead!
