A friend has just alerted me to this one:

Sir Terry Pratchett and Transworld Publishers are proud to launch a new award for aspiring debut novelists, The Terry Pratchett Anywhere But Here, Anywhen But Now Prize. Transworld will offer the winning author a publishing contract with a £20,000 advance.
The award will be judged by the esteemed Sir Terry Pratchett, the wise Tony Robinson, the savvy Mike Rowley from Waterstone’s and two members of the editorial team at Transworld Publishers.
The deadline for submissions is 31 December 2010
A shortlist of six entries will be announced by 31 March 2011.
This competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over who is a resident of the UK, Republic of Ireland or other countries of the British Commonwealth, except for employees (and their families) of Transworld Publishers, a division of The Random House Group Limited (Publisher) and any other company connected with the competition.
(Huzzah - NZ counts! :-D)
Each entrant must submit the following in order to enter the competition:
(a) a complete and previously unpublished work of fiction of not less than 80,000 words and not more than 150,000 words aimed at adult readers and written in the English language (Novel); and
(b) a synopsis of the Novel in the English language of no more than 600 words,
Full T&Cs at the above link - I've picked out the really important bits...
The only thing I'm slightly wary of is that they want the full novel up front - most competitions I've entered have requested a synopsis and sample chapters. But, hey, if I can get my novel finished in time (I slightly missed the June target...), then I'm going to go for it!
Thanks for the news, Bevan! This sounds super exciting!
