Congratulations!
Hello Kiwi Writer,
The final day of SoCNoC and HalfNoC has begun to sweep around the world. Participants are stumbling and sprinting and collapsing across the finish line. Every single one of us has cause to celebrate. Stories were born, words written, plots unravelled and characters pushed in and out of dire straits. It's not just about the stories. It's also about you as writers. One of the great things about writing so much in such a short period of time is that we speed up our learning process. Xengab has posted a great blog post about reflecting on your novel journey. Some of the best wins from participating in these challenges can be our growth as writers.
We've got some grand prizes for the word count winners among you. Some of you will now have yourselves declared as winners on the challenge pages. Everyone who reaches 50,000 words for SoCNoC or 25,000 words for HalfNoC will be emailed a winner's pack containing winner's icons and a flash new winner's certificate designed by our very own jayztar. If you don't receive a winner's pack within a day or two of updating your progress or you're just too impatient please send me a KiwiMail and I'll get it straight out to you!
This will be the final SoCNoC Snippet for 2010 and though novel season is coming to a close it certainly doesn't stop here. In July with hold a short, zippy weekend challenge called the July Zing Thing. It's a 2,000 words challenge of silliness driven by a crazy combination of opening lines, setting, genre, silly things and character traits. You can offer your own contribution to the silliness by posting here.
If you haven't finished your novel this month or having any other writing related project that needs finishing then August is the month to do it. The End Is Nigh challenge runs through the month of August and challenges you to finish just one writing related project. You can, of course, aim to finish more things and they'll be the same SoCNoC excitement to cheer you on. You can sign up now and there'll be a space in the forums opening soon where you can discuss what projects you have that are demanding your attention and those that you really need to wrap up and send on their way.
Keep writing! There are still hours left and you'll be amazed at how much you can write if you shift into blind determination. Head over to the chatroom and rush to finish line with your fellow participants. And when the time comes gives yourselves a little celebration. Do a crazy dance, throwing confetti, blow up some balloons and celebrate the 2010 novel season.
