Congratulations!

Hello Kiwi Writer,

The final day of SoCNoC and HalfNoC has begun to sweep around the world. Participants are stumbling and sprinting and collapsing across the finish line. Every single one of us has cause to celebrate. Stories were born, words written, plots unravelled and characters pushed in and out of dire straits. It's not just about the stories. It's also about you as writers. One of the great things about writing so much in such a short period of time is that we speed up our learning process. Xengab has posted a great blog post about reflecting on your novel journey. Some of the best wins from participating in these challenges can be our growth as writers.

Reflect, Regroup and Charge!

Hello Kiwi Writer,

Congratulations on making it past the half way mark and solidly on the road to the home stretch. If you're participating in SoCNoC and have broken the 30,000 word mark then you're golden. For those HalfNoC-ers among you the 15,000 word mark is your magic number. This is a marathon not a sprint so continue to pace yourself. If you're behind on your word count then don't panic. There are still plenty of days to catch up and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve as the deadline approaches.

Tearing Towards Midway

Hello Kiwi Writer,

We've got a solid group of participants now with 94 signed up for SoCNoC and 32 signed up for HalfNoC. We're coming to the close of week two where some of you may have begun experiencing the writing getting slower, the plot getting in a tangle and characters rebelling. This is where the challenge coming into all the fun and combine to make the whole experience much more rewarding. A great way to motivate yourself is to find someone in the list of participants who has a word count close to yours and try to beat them. Update your word count and then send them a thank you message via KiwiMail for encouraging you. It might be the beginning of a race to the finish line with someone who is writing at a similar pace to you.

Ride The Wave Of Excitement

Hello Kiwi Writer,

The excitement and enthusiasm in this first week of SoCNoC has been palpable and damn contagious! The passion for stories, for writing, for characters is obvious and it's easy for us to forget it. It's easy to take advantage of this writing high, to take it for granted and forget it so quickly when things start getting harder. If this writing high has eluded you so far, don't fear! Any progress that you're able to make is setting you on the path to great things. Everyone's SoCNoC journey is different, every story is different and every writing is different. That writing high, The Zone, is there for all of us. We're all on our own rides of excitement and you may be in one of those corkscrews that makes your stomach turn, you may be climbing slowly higher and higher before the big exciting descent, or you may be riding the twists and turns with your arms flung above your head. It's all part of the ride but remember that you'll get off at the end, when the car pulls to a stop, flushed and giggling with your head spinning. That's the excitement of it all.
